Mosin Nagant 1891/30

description

INFO

The Mosin Nagant 1891/30 is a bolt-action rifle that played a significant role in world history. Designed in 1891 by Russian Imperial Army Colonel Sergei Mosin and Belgian firearms designer Leon Nagant, the Mosin Nagant became the primary service rifle of the Russian Empire and later, the Soviet Union.

During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, the Russian army had been using outdated single-shot rifles and wanted a new weapon that could fire multiple rounds in quick succession. The Mosin Nagant 9130 was designed to meet this need, with a 5-round magazine and a bolt-action mechanism that allowed for faster reloading. In 1891, the Mosin Nagant 9130 was officially adopted by the Russian military as its standard service rifle. The rifle was produced in a number of different variants, including carbine and sniper versions. The 9130 model had a barrel length of 28 inches, a weight of around 8 pounds, and fired the 7.62x54mmR cartridge.

Most of the prominent markings for this gun like the factory emblem, production year, and serial numbers are located on the barrel of the gun. This specific mosin Nagant was made in the Izhevsk factory. This is known because of their marking of the arrow inside of a triangle. The Izhevsk emblem is stamped all along this gun on the barrel, bolt assembly, trigger guard/magazine, and barrel bands. This is also a russian mosin nagant because of the hammer and sickle stamp on top of the barrel. The “K” within the circle stamp on the left side of the barrel means that it was accuracy tested. And the “пп” within the circle stamp was the final acceptance stamp that the Izhevsk factory used from 1941-1942. This was also stamped into the left side of the barrel.

The rifle's durability and reliability made it a popular choice for military forces in other countries as well. During World War II, the Soviet Union supplied the Mosin Nagant 9130 to its allies, including China and North Korea. The rifle was also used by the Finnish army during the Winter War and Continuation War against the Soviet Union.
